Learning at 41 (18/31)

I’m still learning things about myself.  That’s a good thing right?!  The biggest thing I learned today is that I am not a good sick person.  I can’t remember the last time I was sick.  Usually I get some allergy stuff in the spring and fight through it, even run through it.  But that is not meant to be right now.  Apparently I’m supposed to learn/accept (word of the year alert) that I cannot neglect a sickness.

So I sit, lay, dream about feeling better, imagine and plan for new races/runs and hope that a couple of days off won’t lose my training for the marathon.  I know crazy right.  One weekend off isn’t going to make you get out of shape but your mind (or my mind) plays some crazy tricks on you.

I did fortunately get out today.  My daughter had a photo shoot for some dance pics and I went along to help her (read as: hold her coat and blanket).  I was glad to go and I did get a little jogging in, back and forth to the car to get things we needed.  It seemed like a good idea to jog because then I could report back that I did some exercise plus all I could think about today in the light snow, was going outside for a run so this would cover both things right.  Well what sounded like a great idea promptly ended in a coughing fit which ended my hopes of doing much exercise today.  But I still was glad I got out because it was a beautiful day and so peaceful in the snow.

Janathon update for 18/31

Light jogs back and forth to the car

Coughing fit = ab workout

Drinking lots of fluids = lots of trips to the bathroom = hydrating well!

Here are some pics from our early afternoon photo shoot.  Happy 18th day of January/Janathon!

Janathon 17/31 A day of rest

The day after a hard core work out like day 16 created a much needed day of rest for day 17.  That and the fact I have caught some nasty illness that makes me feel like I got hit by a bus but just from my chest up!  So I spent day 17 somewhat resting.  Basically meaning I worked all day and then came home, changed into pj’s and tried to rest (who can go to sleep at 6pm, not me but I can lay there and feel like I need to sleep).

Oddly enough I did some exercise when my legs decided that they wanted to cramp up.  So as I laid there, I would get a cramp in my leg, so I would throw back the covers, jump out of bed on to my feet, and try to work out the leg cramps.  After that happened about 5 times, I decided that I actually did get a work out in for day 17.  I like to call them cramp-a-sthenics.  Similar to calisthenics which is defined as are a “form of exercise consisting of a variety of exercises, often rhythmical, movements, generally without using equipment or apparatus. They are intended to increase body strength and flexibility with movements such as bending, jumping, swinging, twisting or kicking, using only one’s body weight for resistance. They are usually conducted in concert with stretches.”  (Thank you wikipedia)  So just imagine a woman in her pj’s dancing around her room, balancing on the leg with cramps, heart racing due to pain, stretching and doing it all without equipment to help.  There you have it cramp-a-sthenics!

Technically no real exercise to report but I did come up with the new term cramp-a-sthenics!
